"The center has enabled me to connect with other mentors and mentees. In the process, I contribute toward other people's total development and I am also becoming better through these [mentors and mentees] people's contributions. "
The Mentoring Cohort invites underrepresented faculty and staff to serve as mentors. Mentors are required to commit to the cohort for one semester, though several mentors have been a part of the cohort for a year or longer. In addition, mentors are also required to meet with their mentees once a month. Most mentors exceed the cohort requirements and develop successful and healthy mentoring relathionships with their mentees.

"Hearing the challenges and approaches of the graduate sudents in the cohort helps me personally- because many of these challenges are universal. It also helps me to be a better mentor to all of the students I interact with. Mentoring is a 2-way process."

"Mentoring is important because it provides a way to bring people together around professional and personal goals and challenges. It provides a space to share tips and advice, but also just to be heard. Mentors should always be learning too, so having active mentoring relationships helps with my own professional and personal growth."
